College Advising & Planning

Navigate the holistic admissions process with expert guidance from middle school through college acceptance.

Understanding Holistic Admissions

In the U.S., colleges look at a wide range of factors when admitting students to round out the incoming class. This is known as the "holistic" admissions process. Colleges consider academics, extracurriculars, essays, SAT/ACT scores, recommendations, and other factors such as diversity. The goal is to tell a coherent, consistent story across all these factors to portray who you are to the admissions officers.

College Readiness

Most of our students are college-bound with a need to have a plan... The essay portion in particular goes through the writing process and in-depth proofreading before it is ready to impress the admission readers.

Of note – 100% of our students increase their SAT composite score by at least 200 points within six weeks of tutoring!

At Coherence, we aim to guide families through this difficult process and help students across their college admissions journey, beginning as early as middle school.

Middle School Foundation

Laying the foundation in middle school allows students to begin developing their interests early, explore potential career paths, get involved in extracurriculars, and minimize their stress in high school. We will aid in assessing the students strengths and weaknesses through a tailored program, ultimately crafting a game plan for high school.

9th & 10th Grade

We will aid in keeping track of the student's grades as well as providing subject tutoring where needed. We advise the student to begin preparing for the SAT and to complete it sooner rather than later. Students will also continue to follow their game plan, engaging in meaningful activities that will help with their story.

11th Grade

It is vital to explore which colleges will be the right fit for you and to begin preparing to write your essays. It is important to pick the strongest topic for your essays that will showcase who you are to admissions officers. We will draft these essays together and complete them by the end of summer. We will also focus on strong writing and storytelling for other aspects of the application, such as the activities section.

12th Grade

We will work with the student on completing and sending applications in, as well as exploring scholarship opportunities. Students and parents often underestimate how long this takes - be prepared for many revisions of your essays and long hours completing all applications.
